Boot device not found issue

Recently I was facing an issue with my Alienware that I bought in 2013 with message showing up on start up "No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine" Did power reset as mentioned on the forum and it worked for a while.

One day, even after doing the power reset it was not working. Did a diagnostics and hard drive was not getting detected.

Bought a new one through Dell and since it was not installed with OS, decided to boot from CD drive in order to install the OS from the disk that I got as part of this alienware.

Went into bios and made to boot from cd drive(Ensured CD drive is set as primary) as OS is not installed. Inserted the windows disk that came along with my laptop and when I switch on the laptop I am taken to below screen

Upon upgrading in July, I thought everything was working fine. Did not try to use DVD/CD rom drive until a couple of days ago. Can not get it to work. It shows in Device Manager, says drivers are up to date. Have everything set to AutoPlay. What else can I do?

An incredible way to speed-up XPS 15 9550

Working on large MS-WORD documents with my XPS-15 9550 32G RAM is terrible. Resizing an image is luggish: each step lasts about 3 seconds (the same operation on other PCs, even much less powerful, is smooth, only XPS15 is slow, dont ask me why).

The problem is not related to third party software: the problem is replicable and arises also after a clean W10 and Office reinstall only.

After days of sufferences, clean reinstalls, tests of drivers combinations etc. I discovered a workaround that makes Word incredibly faster and more responsive.

You have just to enable Hyper-V from Program and Features/Activate Windows Features, define a virtual switch and magically XPS 15 is faster and faster.

I hope that some expert can explain it; if you dont believe me I can post a video but not now. I have to regain all the time that the hated XPS made me lose.

Cannot enable credential guard on Latitude E5470

Hi,

I'm trying to enable credential guard on my e5470, without success.
Device Guard and Credential Guard hardware readiness tool says:
"Machine is not Device Guard / Credential Guard compatible because of the following:
HSTI validation failed"
Another issue is when Hyper-v Hypervisor feature is enabled, I can't shut down the notebook. When I click on shut down, the machine puts itself into airplane mode, and goes to sleep instead.
All drivers and bios are up-to-date, the OS also.
Do you guys have any idea what could be a solution?

Thanks

Where can I find my Windows 10 key?

Have recently purchased an Optiplex 7040 with Win 7 installed that included the upgrade to Win 10 Pro.  I used Macrium to move a software image from an older Dell XPS desktop running Win 10 Pro  to the Optiplex. This Windows 10 Pro version was an upgrade from Win 7 when MS  made their free upgrade offer. After some adjustments, Win 10 Pro runs just fine.  However, I now receive messages to activate Windows.

I did receive a DVD with Win 10 Pro on it with the computer.  The DVD envelope does have a long character string on it but the activation process says it's the wrong format and suggests I go to the MS Store and buy an activation code.

Can anyone suggest a better solution for my problem?

XPS 13 9360 -- 1.2.3 BIOS results in 'no boot device found'

Dell XPS 13 9360, previously running dual boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS. After upgrading to 1.2.3 BIOS, the laptop fails to boot. I receive a BIOS message 'No boot device found'. This is using AHCI for the drive configuration.

If I change the drive configuration to RAID instead (and nothing else), I receive the error 'Inaccessible boot device' from Windows 10 -- which isn't hugely surprising as it's configured for AHCI and doesn't have the intel RST driver installed.

I've tried downgrading the BIOS to 1.0.7 but received a message 'Incompatible downgrade'.

Any ideas as to why it can "see" the boot device in RAID mode, but not in AHCI?

Can't install Windows 10 from bootable USB with UEFI - Dell Latitude E7470

Hi there,

I've really been struggling with this: I'm trying to install Windows 10 from Dell USB drive that I've made bootable, but it's only seen in the legacy options in the one-time boot menu. Secure boot is off and UEFI is enabled. I need the USB to be recognized as UEFI in order to install Windows to boot to UEFI. I'm using Rufus to make the bootable drive and I've tried both MBR and GPT partition scheme for UEFI with no luck. Is there any BIOS settings I need to check?

I wanted to upgrade my E6400 with 2nd HDD which I put into media bay. Both disks standard SATA HDD, not SSD.
If I put the second HDD in media bay, the system (Windows 10) is not booting. I tried to repair with USB Windows installation stick. Second disk is clean formated, no system, etc.

Stuck in an Installation Loop, help required

ey everyone, I've got myself into a pickle here...

So I got that Dell black screen bug where the screen goes black after startup supposedly because of Nvdia/Intel graphics cards.

Tried a couple of solutions and nothing worked so I booted into the troubleshoot screen and figured a fresh install would do the job and this time I wouldn't update BIOS (that's what led to all of this).

Anyways, the black screen froze the installation process and now everytime I restart the laptop it attempts to resume with the "Press OK to restart the laptop and resume Windows installation". Essentially stuck in a bootloop with no idea what the *** to do, I literally opened this laptop today.

Anyone have any kind of solution here?

I have this issue on my Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series for very long time. I tried searching Google and Dell support community and I did:

Control Panel > Device Manager > Display Adapters > Intel HD Graphics 5500 > Driver > Update Driver > Search Automatically.

It fixed.

18:35 on 25-Dec-2016: Sorry bro, I did as above; it fixed but when I try pressing the brightness button then It come back problem again: can not adjust the brightness. Hic hic

19:00 on 25 Dec 2016: I even try downloading and installing the latest Intel Graphic Driver (issued on July 2016), but just after a while, the screen comes back very dim.

I accidentally discover this: Setting --> Display --> uncheck the box "Adjust my screen brightness automatically".

Sorry, but stupid Windows!!!!

Who Has the Oldest Dell PC Successfully Running Windows 10?

I bought my Studio XPS 8100 in March of 2010. It runs a clean install of Windows 10 very well. I wonder: are there other Dell PCs of that vintage or older that successfully run Windows 10?

Over the years I upgraded the hardware by adding a new power supply, graphics card and additional RAM. I also added an SSD as the boot drive and made the original HDD my data drive. I added a USB 3.0 card to accommodate USB 3.0 devices. Everything else is stock.

Windows 10 is the fourth OS to run on this computer. I replaced the original Windows 7 with a clean install of Windows 8, followed by clean installs of Windows 8.1 and now Windows 10. Dell doesn't support any of these operating systems on the Studio XPS 8100, but that clearly makes no difference.

Windows 10 does not sleep or hibernate.

Every time I close my lid or explicitly hit the hibernate or sleep button the computer starts as if it was from a cold boot.  It takes about 25 seconds for it to get past the Dell screen also it seems.  I have a XPS 9950 with an SSD and I have tried turning off hibernate and resetting the power plan back to default without any effect.  A Bois update came out not too long ago.  Used to work without a problem.  Any ideas?  Should I just send it back for warranty support?
