We can't create the recovery drive

I have a brand new XPS 8900.  I want to create USB recovery.  The operation starts and seems to go well, but about a couple of minutes into it I keep getting the error "We can't create the recovery drive".  I have tried 16 GB and 32 GB flash drives, no luck.  Any guidance is appreciated ....
