Inspiron 15R - N5110 success with fresh install of Windows 10 Home 64bit

I saw several threads where Win10 might not or isn't working so I started this one to indicate it can work.

Last night I successfully installed Windows 10 home edition 64 bit on my Inspiron 15R N5110 core i5 / 8GB.

A 250GB Samsung 840 EVO  SSD was installed. this was a pain and involved dismantling the laptop and removing and re-installing the motherboard. It would have been nice if it was as easy as my inspiron 17R, but I digress...

Install was "fresh" from a DVD. The standalone installer ran without issues.

I read that a BIOS update was required, but did know this or do this before hand because the Win7 HDD was removed by the time I read that it was required.

I tried it any way, and after the second reboot/update the laptop screen was black. I read this was an issue on Microsoft's website, but found a suggestion to plug in an external VGA monitor, and that worked. I then updated the BIOS to v11 and the laptop display started to work again after that.

I installed the most recent Quickset application for this model and this restored the function keys so that screen brightness and volume could be controlled via the function keys.

I did not update any other drivers, and have yet to do extensive testing, but so far it seems to be working. Wifi works, touchpad works, keyboard works, sound works, the screen works.

Now it is time to turn off most of the win10 junk ...
