Inspiron 3174 Windows 10 1511 upgrade black screen at boot

$

My Inspiron 3174 has been running fine on Windows 10 (10240), but after installing the version 1511 upgrade, the systems stuck on a black screen - if I touch/tap the screen, then the system continues to boot and gets to the logon screen.

I've done many clean install tests and 10240 works fine but version 1511 gets the black screen.

If I disable the HID Sensor Collection V2 device, then it boots fine, but the auto-rotation doesn't work.

There are other 3174 owners have this problem after the 1511 upgrade.  It's obviously that 1511 introduces some bugs, but since we can't stop Microsoft from pushing these updates out, eventually all 3174 users are going to have this problem.  I'm wondering if Dell is aware of this.

Windows 10 has been upgraded, "November 15 Upgrade,"

In the upgrade, Dell Software was NOT upgraded!

It is shown as an "Incompatible Program" and some of the Dell Software does not work!!

When will Dell upgrade their Software to run with

Windows 10 November 15 Upgrade,

Version 1511

XPS 730x

Service Tag:<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> | Express Service Code: <ADMIN NOTE: Express service code removed per privacy policy>

I purchased XPS desktop with Windows 7 64 bit installed.

Windows 10 upgrade from Microsoft was installed. Appears to work but I get random BAD_POOL_HEADER errors and the OS restarts. It will not run more than a few minutes without crashing.

Anyone else have a XPS 730x? Most likely cause/driver?

Thank you, Alan Smith

Windows 10 won't load blue screen

I tried to change a setting in misconfig for Windows 10 to normal start up mode instead of the 3Rd option which I originally was on(selective start up option) and now windows won't load because it can't find it.

How to I fix this? I want to put it back to selective start up mode but I can't as Windows won't load, stupid me!

Error coming up is a required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. Error 0xc0000225

I don't have any recovery tools and I tried to press F8 for start up settings but nothing happens just shows blue screen. I can only access Uefi settings

How to upgrade the hardware of Dell XPS (L521x) and then to run a clean reinstallation of Windows 10 Pro

Hello there,

I have searched the internet with the question I have before I do the upgrade and the re-installation of windows. But the posts and solutions are all scattered. I really want to clear this for myself once and for all if possible.

First, the hardware that I have purchased for this upgrade:

1. Samsung 850 EVO 120GB mSATA SSD (to replace the 32 GB factory default one)

2. Western Digital Black 750GB Performance Mobile HDD (7200RPM, 2.5 Inch)

3. Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (802.11ac, 2x2 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth)

4. Crucial Ballistix Sport SODIMM 16GB(2x8GB) PC3-14900 CL10 at 1.35V 204-Pin Memory

BTW, My Dell XPS 15 L521x has a intel core i7-3632QM and a nVIDIA GeForce GT 640M. It also comes with 32 mSATA SSD as cache for the WDC 1TB HDD.

My goal:

1. Install/reinstall Windows 10 on 120GB mSATA SSD and free 500MB give or take for system reserved partition.

2. Use the remaining space as C: Drive.

3. Use WD Black 2.5 inch 750GB HHD for regular storage

4. Remove and then install the Intel Dual Band wireless Card for a better Wi-Fi compatiability for most of dual band routers out there. (The old factory default one, well, is not great to say the least)

5. Remove and then install the crucial RAM (compatiable with L521x) is to bring my laptop's memory up to date (Maybe a little future proof ;D).

Prior to start the upgrade, I know that I have to do the following steps:

1. Update my BIOS/UEFI. (I have done that)

2. Disable Accelerated from Intel Rapid Start Technology(IRST) GUI (My Laptop keeps prompting that "your system does not have intel repaid start technology enabled").

3. Change Intel Smart Respond Technology(ISRT) to AHCI in BIOS

4. Backup my Files

5. Backup my Windows 10 Pro Activation ( How to exactly? The Win10 Pro is upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro with Dell OEM)

Now my question is what else do I need to do or what have I missed so that I won't run into any errors or problems if possible.

Also, I have heard or seen something about the Windows OEM version. If I switch the hardware, the backup activation file or recovery disk won't recognize my device. Is this true? If necessary, I can buy a new retail version of Win10 Pro. But, do I really have to do that, and is there any not-so-complicated work around?

Many thanks,

Dean

Deleted pre-installed program.

Hi, I had a Windows 8.1 with a pre-installed Cyberlink dvd player and McAfee anti-virus programs in it but they were removed when I had to reset my computer after upgrading to Windows 10. How can get those same programs back without having to purchase them again?

Can hard-drive space used for recovery partitions be reclaimed after upgrade to Windows 10?

Everything I read says Windows 10 doesn't need a recovery partition. If true can all the extra space on my hard drive that are currently marked "recovery partition" be recovered and returned to the primary partition ("C")? What about the "OEM Partition?

If yes can Windows disk management do it or need I need a 3rd party utility?

Here is what I'm seeing now (after upgrading Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on my Dell XPS8700):

XPS-8700_Audio_Driver_MN0T2_WN32_6.0.1.7525_A00.EXE

When downloading and trying to install this update, I get an error and the folder created under C:\ProgramData\Dell\Drivers is empty. I extracted it to a different folder on another drive, and the files extract. During the extraction, two files are created then deleted after the Dell install/extract program ends: miniunz.exe and zlibwapi.dll are the files.

I was able to install the software, but am wanting to know if the two files listed above are supposed to be deleted after the extraction. Are these related to the Dell install/extract program or are they supposed to be present when the Dell Audio program and driver is installed?

Thanks.

XPS12 screen flip issues on Windows 10.

Hello all.

I have a XPS 12 9Q23 and just installed Windows 10. Everything seems to be working ok with the exception of the flip screen. It does not switch to tablet mode like it did in Windows 8/8.1. I see that windows 10 supports switching modes, but it will not detect when I've flipped the screen and gone into tablet mode. I read something about intel virtual buttons being necessary for this feature to work but the downloads I've tried fail to install.

Also while the screen does rotate when I tilt the unit, the sensitivity seems way off. Its super easy to spin the picture to portrait, even accidentally, but its very difficult and awkward to get it to rotate back into landscape.

Anyone have any thoughts to fix this?

Hi,

I have a Dell i5 N4050 laptop that came with pre-installed Windows 7 Pro. Couple of weeks ago, the laptop freezes at starting windows screen. I didn't created a recovery disk or restore point to bring back the laptop to its good condition but what I did was reinstall the Windows 7 Pro instead. When I provided the product key an error in activation occurred " product key doesn't match current windows SKU"

I got some help from Microsoft Technical Support and was asked to provide the Windows 7 Pro product key. They found out the product key is blocked by the OEM.  I was advised to contact the OEM to resolve the issue of Windows 7 failed to activate due product key doesn't mathc current Windows SKU.

Windows 10 Upgrade and Dell Backup and Recovery

After installing the Windows 10 upgrade on all my Dell Windows 8.1 PCs Dell Backup and Recovery wanted updating and so I performed that update. After that Backup and Recovery prompted me to make new recovery drives. I've completed that process on two of the PCs and I have questions.

Are these new backups for restoring Windows 10 or are they going to take me back to Windows 8.1?
If 8.1 how do I get back to Windows 10 if something happens after the free period expires?

What does "Check Recovery Media" do (I clicked it at waited for 15 minutes and nothing ever seemed to happen)?

Windows 10 build 1511 PCs don't/intermittently appear in their own or other Windows 10 build 1511 network folder

The November Windows 10 build 1511 is causing PCs either to not appear at all or intermittently appear in their own or other Windows 10 build 1511 network folders, but they do appear in Windows 10 PCs network folders that are running the previous build. This appears to be a Microsoft screw up.

Anyone know how to fix this or if Microsoft is working to correct it?

I have a new 5888 laptop running windows 10 and this error message pops up sporadically:

" Error message:  The operating system is not presently configured to run this application."

Not sure what application the error message is referring to.  This message does seem to pop up when I log back into my computer (screen saver), but I can't tell for sure.  Help!

I have an Inspiron 660s which I upgraded to Windows 10 quite a few months ago. The more I use it the more I hate it and just want to get back to Windows 7 which was factory installed on my machine.  Is there an easy way of doing this? and will I have to reinstall all of my programs again?
