I recently upgraded my Inspiron running Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. My computer appears on the list of tested computers for the upgrade by Dell. No problem with the upgrade or how it works now.
BUT - windows won't activate. It says I need a key from Windows 8.1. I don't have a key - it was embedded in the computer. I have gotten mixed answers from Microsoft. One says it should activate with the Nov. version of Windows 10 - which I have, one says I have to roll back to Windows 8.1 and then go find the key.
I used Belarc advisors to see the Windows key on my computer. It is not valid per Microsoft. And they say sometimes embedded keys are encoded.
Help - I need a Windows key to activate. How do I get a windows key for my computer?? I am out of warranty - so Dell wants money to talk to me.
