Laptop: Dell XPS 14
Originally came with Win 8, upgraded to 8.1, then eventually to Win 10.
I've had 2 or 3 cases now where Windows 10 has had corruption issues. Usually sfc /scannow fixes it, but last time I had to use dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth to fix. I've done chkdsk, updated drivers, etc., but don't know why I keep having corruption issues. Judging by the number of people with this issue and XPS 14s, I'm not alone :(
This time I got the same bad_system_config_info error. I've searched and tried every fix imaginable. (sfc; dism restore health, dism restore health using /source from media creation tool, dism fixing components, renaming system folders old and restoring, etc.).
Bottom-line - no matter what I do, DISM won't recognize any source as able to restore my files, sfc keeps seeing files as corrupt, and windows won't start.
Refresh, restore, etc. all return errors. No dell restore option available (I think it disappeared when I upgraded to win 10). I can't clean install win 10 because I upgraded from windows 8 and thus, don't have a product key :(
So - how do I perform a clean install of win 8 and where is my product key?
Can Dell send me a Win 10 product key so I don't have to perform the windows 8->8.1->win 10 install path for the 4th time?
Thanks in advance
