How did Dell's product team decide the list of laptops to be supported for upgrade to Windows 10?
Surely all laptops that are OEM Windows 7+ should be tested and supported with bios/driver revisions where required for the Windows 10 upgrade. Microsoft has taken an aggressive position in its push for upgrade to Windows 10 and this is my only piece of hardware in MS scope, that has been made obsolete. Another cheap Dell laptop I have, IS on the list. Makes no sense except that enterprise customers buy this model.
I speculate that it was decided on customer analytics. It is not the choice of business to buy laptops like these, so mainly single prosumer users who want and appreciate it for its versatility to do work and provide a high-end entertainment/gaming experience. Mine is optioned with everything (Core i7-2720, SSD, 8GB RAM, GT 540 graphics, FHD screen, JBL/Waves MaxxAudio, WiFi/Bluetooth, backlit keyboard, Win7 Ultimate), so a considerable expense. And I have recently replaced the battery and the charger.
I anticipate, like others who are affected, we are a largish group of independent owners, each representing our singular view to a big company that cares little for us. It feels like a price gouge, since we will have to buy new laptops to replace otherwise good hardware for the sake of some drivers.
Unless Dell addresses this issue, I'm with s_elliott_h, see USA Customer Care Board, "I am severing all ties of a 15+yr relationship with Dell unless...."
