I upgraded my Dell XPS 17 L702x to WIndows 10. All was fine until the November update, which stuck on 83% and reverted to the previous build 240.
Since then, whenever I put the laptop to sleep, waking it causes a BSOD, with a message DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. I have submitted the dmp files to Microsoft Windows 10 forum and that has identified that it is a driver from ST Micro Electronics that is causing the crash.
Several months prior to this problem, I had changed my C drive and installed an SSD. I had also changed my E drive from 512GB to 1TB. Both had worked perfectly well in Windows 7 and in the initial upgrade to Windows 10.
DEVICE MANAGER SHOWS:
ST Micro Accelerometer
Hardware ID: ACPI\VEN_SMO&DEV8800
ACPI\SMO8800
*SMO8800
Driver date 10/12/2010
Driver version 1.0.0.15
Events tab: Device ACPI\SMO8800\1 requires further installation.
I have looked on the ST Micro web site, but there is no mention of any similar device or hardware ID. I would love to be able to update the driver, but what to?
Does anyone know what is installed in the laptop and how to find an up to date driver?
