5110 Rollback to Win 7 from Win 10 when only Task Manager available; Black screen with white arrow only Win 10 response

Foolishly accepted Windows 10 offer before checking that the 5110 has been certified for W10 (it's not!)

After  installation, I was able to see the initial W10 screen, logged in.  Soon after desktop loaded, any attempt to access or do anything resulted in a black screen with white arrow only.

Spent 2 1/2 hours on chat with Windows Support;  through this, learned that my system would not respond to F8 when booting, nor would it respond to recovery disk in drive.  Was told to take to Microsoft store.

Before making 1 1/2 hour trip to nearest store, luckily I attempted to clarify with Microsoft what to bring, where, etc. and learned that first rep was wrong;  they consider it a Dell problem.

Here is how I finally got to a point where I could restore back to Windows 7:

A) Go to Task Manager (ctl-alt-del).  File > Run new task

Type "control.exe" then Enter/Run which opens control panel. Go to Programs and Features.

Uninstall IDT Audio Driver and re‐boot.

At this point, it MIGHT have been that W10 would have worked for me.  I was too afraid to experiment much as I'm not exceedingly tech-savvy AND this has been SUCH a nightmare!

B) When boots, hit Windows key and i.   Select Update and Security, Recovery, and Go back to Windows 7.  (see article techingiteasy.wordpress.com/.../how-to-rollback-to-a-previous-version-of-windows-from-windows-10)

I am far from expert, but as had such a hard time finding a way out of this nightmare, putting it out there in hopes it will put someone else on the right path.  EXPERTS, PLEASE CLARIFY FOR USERS!    In retrospect, I think I might've tried step B first.  Might not have been necessary to uninstall the IDT Audio Driver.
