Upgrade to WIN 10 problematic

Well, the XPS 15Z at least works...but, it's wonky.  I'll admit this is an elegant machine that hasn't aged well.  Way too heavy, even too thick, when introduced as the thinest 15" or whatever I haven't used the XPS 15Z much.  It's in pristine condition and the only reason I brought it out of mothballs was to migrate it to Windows 10.  It's been a bit of a let-down to say the least.  The boot time is way long, the trackpad worked only in a minimal useful way, and the machine seemed to sometimes have a mind of it's own.  Never mind the extremely trying period of updates prior to even being able to do an install from a DVD made from a downloaded ISO file.  At first the install would simply get to a point and fail.  Then after much frustration I found I had to remove some kind of driver that wasn't compatible.  That unblocked the failure and WIN 10 finally installed.  Basically, the machine works, but is wonky due to the trackpad problem being and Intel Centrino N 6320 mini-card wi-fi getting even worse (previously disabling Bluetooth seemed to make the card passable).  If I close the laptop without shutting it down all kinds of strangeness ensues such as black screen with a fan whose sound resembles a saw.  I'm wondering if a clean install may actually help or hurt?  I think short-term I need to replace the wi-fi card and hope for something that restores full trackpad smooth functionality.  Any suggestions?  Email them to:<ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed per privacy policy> with heading XPS 15Z.  I will be grateful for any help.
