System is always detecting a mouse, even when one is not connected

This is annoying because when I do plug in a mouse, I like the feature that automatically turns off the touchpad. However, when I turn on this feature and unplug my mouse, the touchpad remains inactive. I've notice that even when nothing is plugged in, under Mouse settings, it always says "A mouse is connected."

My only mouse is USB wired, and I don't have anything connected via bluetooth. Any fixes or workarounds? Thanks!

Side note: I originally thought this was a Windows 10 issue so I posted in a Microsoft forum, but I've learned that this only occurs on other Dells.

Other side note: when I go to device manager, under "Mice and other pointing devices," there are always "3" mice attached:

-HID-compliant mouse
-HID-compliant mouse
-PS/2 Compatible Mouse

I've tried both updating and uninstalling the mice but to no avail.
