Recent problem with a 40 minute boot up

I purchased my Dell XPS8900 desktop the end of March/beginning of April 2016.  Last Thursday, out of the blue.....the computer rebooted by itself and took 20 minutes to restart....and 40 minutes to fully boot up.  I am also hearing a chime every 15-20 seconds that sounds like something is either trying to open up or shut down...not sure.  I ran Nortons fully....with no virus detected ...ran Malwarebytes and again...all clear.  After setting up this computer, was unable to run windows update as I get a message that wuapp.exe is missing.  Also tried to do the system restore disks as the instructions stated that came with this computer and unable to do it.  I called Dell just after setting up the computer with the update and restore issues with no help at all from their tech support.  Last Friday I called Dell tech support over the boot up issues....and no help....wanted to reinstall my OS..which I really do not want to do.  Called on Sunday and they are supposed to have tech support come to my house to fix this but again...someone from Dell tech support messed up and it was cancelled...now per Loren.....they have set it up again but waiting for a call.  Any ideas why this slow shutdown and boot up?  Any help is welcome.

THANKS

Fred
