Switched to Legacy and Screen is now Blank

So I had an issue with Nvidia drivers not installing correctly and had to restart my PC (specs below). After restarting I couldn't get the computer to load as it was stuck on the spinning dots (sorry, I'm not incredibly computer savvy). After hours of it not loading, I mistakenly selected for the computer to boot in legacy mode instead of UEFI, and now my computer shows a black screen upon startup with details of my graphics card and windows copyright showing up in white text on the screen. Right after that comes up on the screen, everything turns black and I am unable to see anything.

If anyone can help me in any way possible I would be forever greatful, as this has angered me beyond belief. I'd appreciate any advice, please just remember I'm not super knowledgeable when it comes to these kinds of things.

I have an Alienware X51 R3 (GTX 970, Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM)

If worst comes to worst, just help me find a way to completely reset the computer. I'm done at this point.

"uninstall program" is actually trying to install

I have a new machine with Windows 10.  I am trying to uninstall a program that was "mirrored" from my old Windows 7 machine.  It's a non-system program.

When I click "uninstall", the program actually tries to install itself.  Any ideas how I can fix this?

Inspiron Desktop 660, Win 10 Anniversary, Mic input is coming through the speakers

When I plug a mic into the mic jack, the sound comes out the speakers.

I know what you're going to say...  Uncheck "Listen to this device" for the mic.  Well, it's already unchecked.  I doesn't matter if it's checked or unchecked, the sound comes over the speakers.

I'm becoming one frustrated Windows 10 user over this and the USB mic problems [8o|]

This is on an Inspiron 660 runing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

XPS 8700 Intel AMT Windows 10 driver issues?

Hey all,

I've had to leave Intel Management Engine Interface disabled for awhile now due to ongoing driver/compatibility issues in Windows 10.

I've tried re-installing several different Intel AMT driver versions now including DELL support recommended 11.0.0.1153.

After reboot the system just hangs on DELL loading screen for about 2min before finally loading desktop then upon checking device manager Intel MEI shows the below error:

The error is a code 10 (STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE).

Checking Event Viewer is full of warnings and errors from source MEIx64:

The Intel(R) Management Engine Interface is being reset.

Intel(R) Management Engine Interface driver has failed to perform handshake with the Firmware

My system will no longer resume from sleep either after hitting 'Esc' key just ends up rebooting which I'm pretty certain is also related...rather annoying to say the least having to always shutdown when not in use.

Microphone unusable in Skype (low volume) FIX for Dell Inspiron 7737 and others

Please DELL update the shipped Realtek sound driver for Dell Inspiron 7737 and others that have this problem to the needed version "Realtek High Definition Audio Version 6.0.1.7950" instead of "Realtek High Definition Audio Version 6.0.1.7544" or lower!

Finally fixed this. NONE of the solutions above worked for me. I have an Dell Inspiron 7737 that has Realtek High Definition audio. The latest drivers from DELL or latest I could download from Realtek site ("Realtek High Definition Audio Version 6.0.1.7541" / "Realtek High Definition Audio Version 6.0.1.7544") didn't make a difference. Skype microphone was not usable (I had to literally speak in the microphone - 1 cm away to be usable).

PREVIOUS ANNOYING SOLUTION (just in case the real solution doesn't work for everyone): previously I went in device manager, update driver, "let me choose" / "pick from available"... then selected "High definition audio" - so the generic driver from Microsoft. That fixed the problem but realtek specific things like jack sensing didn't work anymore so it was annoying. Also every now and then (when windows update happened I think) it reverted back to the broken Realtek driver and had to do this all over again or simply choose "rollback driver" once instead of update and then it would pin the driver to the generic "High definition audio" one.

SOLUTION: install this driver that is not available on either dell (for this laptop model)/realtek sites at this moment "Realtek High Definition Audio Version 6.0.1.7950". I got this from a collegue's suggestion to use "Snappy driver installer". You can find it on the internet. It showed me 5 alternative drivers, 3 of which were "newer, less optimal and unsigned", 1 on which was "old and unsigned" and 1 was "newer, less optimal and signed". I picked and installed the latter and it was 6.0.1.7950. Well it seems that this "less optimal" driver fixes it. Now ppl. can hear me on skype just like in the good old Windows XP SP3 days :).

I think this will help loots of ppl. - I have the exact same problem on an older Acer laptop but I will try fixing that later today. It would save days for many many ppl. around the world if Microsoft/Dell/Realtek actually would use the correct drive for these laptops! Thanks "Snappy driver installer"!

windows 10 trackpad driver

I have recently obtained a Dell-XPS-M 1530 with a clean install of windows 10,it is a beautiful thing.

My problem is that the only way to scroll the page is to go to the side line on the right of the screen an bring it down that way. The pointer moves as it should all over the screen, so that is ok. It seems as if the pointer can not go deep enough to reach the page.

When I connect a wireless mouse every thing works as it should and I can scroll the page without any problem, so, is there any driver of whatever stable to overcome this problem???

Kind regards...........Philip

Alienware M18X

I am well aware of the issues with upgrading to Windows 10 and Alienware laptops, but I feel that those of us who own the M18X should now be able to upgrade. I do not understand why it was only certain systems that were tested. If Dell wish to keep customers then all systems capable of running Windows 10 should be tested.

I feel that if this issue is not resolved then I for one will never buy another Dell system. Every company should keep up to date with future OS expansions and make it possible for all to upgrade. The reason I state this is the M18X is not that old and does support the upgrade, but as we are all aware there is an issue when installing the driver for the GPU's.

I would very much like to see a 'FIX' for this so that those of us with this issue are not left out and do not have to be out of pocket to purchase another product in order to benefit from the upgrade.

Windows 10 Anniversary & USB C Not Working

Just had my Precision 3510 updated by the work technician and I am now unable to use my second monitor via USB C.

Before this, I had a USB C to HDMI adapter that worked without issue but nothing I have tried since will restore it's functionality.

Looking in device manager it shows the port as Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed) but before it was plug and play.

I've uninstalled the USB driver and had it reinstalled with no change via the device manager.

Any help on this?

Dell TouchPad (Alps) Windows 10 keep saying cannot delete file after startup

Dell Latitude E6430 upgraded to Windows 10 recently, all recent updates. Not sure when, after one of the driver updates, it gives an error at startup after login in:

File Access Denied

You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this file

ApInfo.dll

Company: Alps Electric Co., Ltd.

If I press continue, it gives error that file is in use. Same error for all files in TouchPad driver. If I skip, touchpad works fine, the touchpad setting utilities work fine. But for some reason it wants to delete itself everytime system starts up.

Tried uninstalling the Dell TouchPad driver and reinstalling, several times, but always get the same error after login.

Any idea what could be the problem?

My machine was sold to me as one that would upgrade when Windows 10 became available.  Tried many times without success.  Have now learned that my 32 bit machine will accept the upgrade as only a 64 bit machine will accept the upgrade.   My tablet works great but I need a machine built for windows 10.  I feel that Dell should  help me find a resolution other than paying for a new machine because of the sales lead-in that my machine would accept the upgrade.  Can anyone offer a resolution?

Laptop won't update, reset, or backup.

Hi I'm having trouble with my Dell XPS 9550. I'm currently running Windows 10 Pro and since late August my laptop will not install the cumulative updates Microsoft puts out. It begins to install it and after an hour it gets to 100% and then says update failed uninstalling update and it stays like that for another hour. I've contacted Microsoft over the issue and everything they've tried won't work. I've tried resetting Windows 10 and that fails, reinstalling Windows from a disc image fails, everything fails. I've searched for hours trying to find a solution trying different Commands and system checks in the command prompts and nothing will work.

Boot device not found issue

I have an alienware bought in 2013. Recently I faced an issue where in it shows no boot device found, please reboot the system. Upon system diagnostics, the hard drive was not getting detected. Bought a new one and installed it, ran the system diagnostics and ensured everything is ok.

Now after powering on, went to boot option and selected cd drive for installing the OS from CD, the system boots up, but still shows me "no boot device found. please reboot the system".

Any advice on what could be the issue.

Graphics driver stop working frequently

I have a DELL Inspiron 15.  Since I install Windows 10 anniversary update I have problems with the graphics driver.  I have an external monitor, connected through dock station. Sometimes when the computer start the external monitor freeze and the windows lock itself.  I have to disconnect the external monitor, disable the Intel HD Graphics 5500 and enable again. Normally this operation solve the problem.  Other times the computer start and works with the external monitor without problems.

I updated the driver on Dell website. I am using version 20.19.15.4463.   I also update Display link driver of my dock station but the problem continue.

Anybody have a suggestion to solve this problem?

Weird update behavior/stuck

I have a W10 laptop (Inspiron 15z), that hasn't been used for about a year (now at build 10.14393.0). When I try to update it with Windows update, the following happens: 1) it says updates are available, but get stuck on downloading updates 0%; 2) after hours, it shows several updates are available; 3) when I select download updates, they disappear one by one almost immediately; 4) then it goes back to step 1 and history shows no downloads were installed. In fact, none of my previous updates show either.
I tried the Update troubleshooter and it says it fixed some errors but could not fix "potential windows update database error detected".

Any suggestions?
