Wifi problem after windows update

$

I already mentioned in another post that I the windows 10 drivers provided by dell did not affect my laptop (vostro 3560) at all and the drivers remained the one window initially had installed when I clean installed windows 10.

Yesterday, I saw that windows want to install some new updates which I allowed and the windows installed them and restarted the laptop afterwards. But when the installed finished and it restarted I realized that the wifi adaptor is showing very weird behavior. It shows nearby access points and they come and disappear immediately. Also, it is not possible to connect to any of them. Also, it is now showing my office wifi in the list at all. I tried to uninstall and reinstall wifi adaptor and also tried once again the dell drivers. no success.

I then used system restore and restored PC to a previous point in time and it started to work again. But the problem is windows want to update the machine again, which will cause the same issue. Any one else observed this?

close lid setting are set to sleep - for both "on ac" and battery.  I've tried "do nothing" and hibernate.   Doesn't matter - it seems to ignore the setting.  I used to close lid in windows 8.1 and laptop went to sleep.  Windows 10 seems to ignore this.

Windows 10 Help

So I downloaded windows 10 yesterday, as soon as it was downloading the log-in would just flash, I couldn't do any thing so I had to shut the computer down. When I tried to turn it back on it brought up a blue recovery screen that said that your PC needs to repaired. The boot configuration data file doesn't contain valid information for an operating system. I contacted dell they sent me a usb drive with windows 8. I tried to reinstall windows 8. But it won't work. When I click on repair your computer, then click on reset your pc. That says unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing. Please help I don't have the money to have dell help me, they want $129 just to help once.

Screen blinking on XPS 2720 after Windows 10 upgrade

The computer is running all the recommended drivers which were installed in the suggested order

This seems more and more like a video driver issue with the driver not working properly with windows 10. I googled windows 10 install issues and there seems to be video card issues with many other systems.

I have tried different bios versions with A11 (the recommended one) definitely the worst. I am running A05 with the brightness level at -29. The computer is usable and only blinks every few minutes. The computer passed all the diagnostics. The machine has been running 24/7 so I don't believe the issue is heat related.

Downloaded the generic INTELdisplay driver (4600) from the INTEL website but the driver will  not install.

I hope Dell put outs updated drivers soon. This is a nice machine the worked well under windows 8.1.

Any help will be appreciated.

Cortana Microphone Issues with Dell XPS 13 (2015)

Anyone else upgraded their 2015 model XPS 13 laptop to Windows 10 and seen issues with Cortana? When I first did the upgrade, I saw a warning say my microphone wasn't compatible with Cortana, but it works...sometimes. I tried to train it to respond only to my voice, but it doesn't hear me when I try the learning phrases. It does work generally when I say "Hey Cortana...", but not well.

If I go into the Microphone setup wizard, the mic can hear me, but only barely - the wizard gives me a warning about the mic not being able to hear me clearly, but then it completes and says the mic is set up.

I'm not clear if this is a driver issue, or what. Anyone else having this problem?

Dell Inspiron n5110 critically slow

Hello everyone !!

I am a dell user for the past 3 years and 4 months. I bought Dell inspiron n5110 core i7, 8GB RAM, 1GB graphic card, NVIDIA. It was running perfectly till the time I changed its windows. I used windows 7 professional for more than 2 years but when I re-installed the windows 7 ultimate the whole system went very slow. it took almost 1-2  minutes for just loading DELL INITIAL STARTUP SCREEN WITH DELL logo on it.

I installed all the drivers correctly. I got this issue fixed from a repair shop, but they didn't gave me all the information about problem and the solution.

Now once again this issue came back. I installed windows 10, updated/downloaded all the drivers online.

After 3-4 minutes of very slow processing I reach windows 10 loading screen, the loading sign (dotted circle) appears very slowly, one dot per second :/

I tried by taking the RAM out from slot and installing it back again but the issue remains the same.

Please help me.

Regards

Microsoft Office 2010 (protected) prevents Win 10 from installing

I have tried everything I know to get rid of Q;\ MS Office 2010 (protected ). This monstrosity prevents Windows 10 from installing. Dell have built in protection of the Q: drive, thus not being able to uninstall normally. Does anyone know how to do this without messing the machine up?

My machine is an Aspire 1558.

I have looked at very many other forums, but no mention of this particular problem.

Hoping someone can help.

Good morning,

Now is 08/13 and still no reply. Can you help us?

Thanks.

I review the windows mobile center (control panel) and tried both options (exact same options we have at BIOS).

I´m stucked. Anybody see this issue too? Some help, advise?

Inspiron 7537 won't detect Nvidia 750M at all after Windows 10 installation

Hi guys,

I've had this Inspiron 7537 for over a year with no trouble with the Nvidia 750M at all, even after a format and clean install of Windows 8.

Recently I upgraded to Windows 10 and the graphics card was still working fine and I could play games with ease.

Today, I formatted and installed a clean Windows 10 but now the graphic card isn't detected by Windows at all. It won't show up on device manager and the Nvidia driver installer won't detect it either saying "it could not find compatible graphics hardware".

I also formatted my laptop and reinstalled Windows 8.1 and that didn't help either. Also tried to downgrading my bios as I upgraded it around the time I did my clean Windows 10 install and that made no difference either. Please help!

Microphone issues with XPS 502x

Service tag is: <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>

and it's configured as originally set up.

Microsoft tests say this Dell laptop should work with Windows 10 (64 bit) & I've resolved most issues now. Two remaining ones are 1) semi-fixed namely the monitor driver that it was trying to make a Generic PnP driver which was terrible. I've set it to one of the few other options ie flat panel 2048 x 1024 at 60hz is that best? I can't find any update on the site that fixes this.

The bigger issue is with the inbuilt microphone that comes as part of the webcam, it worked fine on W7 but while it works, the pick up is way, way to low and cranking up all the volume options has no useful impact. Again I've looked up any new drivers on the site but another blank.

I tried the diagnostic software on the support site but whether simple and generic or specific to the microphone issue it goes as follows: installs the Dell software, goes into the test phase from which it never emerges, some dead loop even after hours.

Any ideas out there?

Inspiron 660 and Audio problems with Windows 10

I upgraded to Windows 10 on my Inspiron 660 desktop and now I do not have any audio.  Microsoft suggests going to Speaker Properties and trying other default format sample and bit depth rates.  I've tried them all and the error message is the same....Error!  Failed to play test tone.

The playback device is Conextant SmartAudio HD Default Device.  I actually have speakers.  Even when I detach them it won't play through headphones.  I have no other audio option listed.  I believe I have updated all my drivers and such.

Ideas?

Overheating my Dell 5720 with Windows 10

Hi, I upgraded my windows 8.1 to windows 10 some days ago, and I noticed that my dell 5720 is overheating doing almost nothing (just browsing webpages).

The fans are now all the time working because of the increase of the temperature.

This is happening with all the browsers, chrome beeing the worst.

I updated windows, and the drivers from the dell webpage, but still like this.

never have this problem with windows 8.1 or 7.. so it isn't hardware issue, I bet maybe windows problem or drivers need to be updated to work better, and not raise high temperature just browsing webpages.

Hope someone can help me fix this

Thanks

Repeated failure to install Windows 10 on Dell 660s - 0xC1900101 0x30017

$

I have had 3 failures upgrading my Inspiron 660s to Windows 10. I have successfully updated my Optiplex 380 and my Inspiron 1545. I mention this because all three machines are running Windows 7 Home Premium, up to the latest update level, and all three have the same application software installed. Perhaps the significant difference is that the Inspiron 660s is running the 64-bit version of Windows. (The Optiplex 380 and Inspiron 1545 are running the 32-bit OS.)   There are no hardware changes to the Inspiron 660s.

The Dell Computers tested for upgrade to Windows 10 information page indicates the Inspiron 660s has passed W10 installation tests. So I obviously have a configuration specific problem.

 http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN297954/EN

Results of all three installation attempts:

 We couldn’t install Windows 10

The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation

Error code: 0xC1900101 0x30017

The first time it failed was on the 29th July introduction date using the download Microsoft provided automatically. The next two were done with about a week between each to see if things might have “healed”, and using the download tool. To make it worse, each time, the failure is especially bizarre since it attempts to restore Windows 7 and fails miserably. (I have hard drive images, so restoration takes time but is easy.)

First, after the attempt to restore W7, a popup comes up saying “The Recycle Bin on C:\ is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?” The choices are Yes and No. Regardless of which you pick, a loop begins which keeps repeating the popup every 15 seconds or so. It can be killed and goes away by picking the X.

A version of Windows 7 does come up, eventually, but it looks nothing like the version I was running when I started the update. About the only thing that looks normal is the start menu and the program list. It appears as if much of the customization I have done has been removed. Nothing fancy, mind you, just having a few applications on the task bar, and choices of which icons show in the notification area. I am not even sure that Microsoft Security Essentials is running (I haven’t checked) but its icon is missing from the notification area.

For the third try I removed every connection to external devices, as one poster has suggested on-line. I had a mouse, a keyboard, and the Ethernet connection. Of course, the installation tool was in a USB port. One thing I did catch the installer doing the last time was the equivalent of a chkdsk operation on C:\. I don’t know if that happened every time or not since I have not babysat the hour or so it takes the installation once it really gets started. But something seems to be destroying or seriously affecting the hard drive in a bad way.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Special Dell Support note:

Several strange things keep occurring on the Dell Support site. Even though Dell System Detect is installed and listed in the installed programs, every time I try to do anything on the site that requires System Detect, such as look for updates or run the diagnostics, the system insists on downloading and reinstalling System Detect. Even if the elapsed time since the last install is 5 minutes.

When analyzing for Windows 10 updates, the following two drivers are recommended. If I use the auto install option, both are downloaded, but the first fails. Repeatedly.

Intel Management Engine Interface Driver - Chipset_Driver_8VHWT_WN_8.0.0.1262_A01.EXE (55MB)

Chipset_Driver_WWPR9_WN_9.4.0.1014_A01.EXE

If I scan for the same check for Windows 10 drivers, even after a restart as required by the second, it says I need to update both of them again. I wonder if all this somewhat bizarre behavior has to do with why I fail the Windows 10 update.

If I try to install the driver Intel Management Engine Interface Driver -Chipset_Driver_8VHWT_WN_8.0.0.1262_A01.EXE (55MB) manually, the installer tells me I have a newer version already installed. Could this be part of the problem? Should I overwrite the newer version? The manual installer offers that possibility.  Is it possible that later version it is not compatible with Windows 10?

If I try to install the driver Chipset_Driver_WWPR9_WN_9.4.0.1014_A01.EXE manually, it installs normally. Interesting that the Dell website says reboot is necessary, the manual installation does not.

But if I run the Dell Support analysis for Windows 10 again, both are listed again. I am puzzled by this in addition to the failure of Windows 10 to install.
